TANGSEN, in collaboration with the Kibaha District Council, has successfully conducted training sessions on the development of Climate Change Adaptation Plans (CCAPs) in two wards Dutumi and Magindu specifically in the villages of Madege and Magindu.

The training, led by TANGSEN staff alongside representatives from the Kibaha District Council, involved ward and village-level leaders, including ward executive officers, village executive officers, natural resources officers, livestock officers, community development officers, respected village elders, and religious leaders.

The villages in Dutumi and Magindu wards are primarily composed of farming and pastoralist communities that rely on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods. Additionally, the majority of households in these areas use charcoal and firewood as their main sources of cooking energy both for home consumption and for school meal preparation.

These livelihood practices, combined with extensive tree cutting for charcoal production and firewood, have contributed to environmental degradation and increased vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. These impacts include heavy rainfall that damages crops and infrastructure such as roads, as well as prolonged droughts that have led to food shortages and hunger crises most notably in 2004 and 2016.

By empowering local leaders to spearhead Climate Change Adaptation Plans (CCAPs), TANGSEN and the Kibaha District Council are supporting a proactive, community-driven approach to climate challenges helping villages in Dutumi and Magindu safeguard their environment and ensure a more secure and sustainable future.
