Tanzania Gender and Sustainable Energy Network (TANGSEN), in collaboration with Kisarawe District Council, recently conducted a field visit to women entrepreneur groups in Kibuta Ward, located in Mlegele and Kibuta villages in Kisarawe District.

The visit focused on two active women’s groups Mlegele Women Group and REMASIVESU Women Group both of which are engaged in livestock keeping and crop production. Their economic activities include poultry farming (chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl) as well as the cultivation of vegetables and fruits, contributing to household incomes and local food security.

Accompanied by the District Community Development Officer, TANGSEN officials undertook the visit under the ENERGIA Phase 7 Project. The primary objective was to assess potential sites for the installation of a poultry hatchery unit that will support women entrepreneurs in expanding their poultry production.

This marks TANGSEN’s second visit to the groups under the project. The first visit focused on collecting baseline information and understanding the groups’ operational capacity, while the second visit aimed specifically at conducting a technical assessment to determine a suitable location for the hatchery installation.

The proposed hatchery unit is expected to significantly enhance poultry production by ensuring a reliable and efficient chick incubation process. Increased productivity will not only strengthen the women’s businesses and boost their incomes, but also contribute to improved local economic growth. In the long term, such interventions are anticipated to positively impact district revenue and contribute to national economic development.

Through this initiative, TANGSEN reaffirms its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs by providing sustainable energy solutions and practical support that enhance productivity, resilience, and women economic growth at the grassroots level.
