TANGSEN is proud to be collaborating with UN-WOMEN Tanzania on impactful community development projects in rural areas. Since October 2023, the two organizations have been working together on the "UPISHI BORA, PUNGUZA KAZI BILA MALIPO" project in Singida Region, specifically in Ikunga District. The project, aimed at improving clean energy use for cooking, has made a significant positive impact on local communities, particularly benefiting women and girls.

One of the key outcomes of the project has been the distribution of electric stoves to local families. Ezekiel Nakaza, Assistant Accountant at TANGSEN and project lead on financial management, shared, "The project has greatly benefited these communities. Over 235 including electrical pressure stoves, Electrical induction stoves and improved charcoal and firewood stoves were distributed, with community members contributing a small cost to help make the project sustainable." This initiative has not only improved access to cleaner energy for cooking but also helped reduce the health and environmental impacts of traditional cooking methods.

Expanding Reach and Collaboration

In addition to the work in Singida, TANGSEN has recently expanded its efforts into the Pwani regions of Tanzania, specifically Kisarawe and Rufiji Districts. As part of ongoing collaboration, a joint visit by TANGSEN and UN-WOMEN took place on November 7, 2024, to explore new opportunities for further cooperation and project development.

The visit focused on two key initiatives: the production of standardized and fixed stoves in Yombo Likinga and the use of solar-powered vegetable dryers in Chole Samvula. These projects are helping to promote sustainable practices and provide economic opportunities for local communities.

Looking Toward Future Cooperation

Lilian Mwamdanga, a Program Specialist with UN-WOMEN, expressed her appreciation for the progress made so far, stating, "We have learned a lot from TANGSEN's work and have seen the positive impact on the ground. We are excited to explore how we can continue to support and strengthen these initiatives moving forward."

Through these collaborative efforts, TANGSEN and UN-WOMEN are not only addressing immediate needs such as access to clean energy but also helping to build long-term, sustainable solutions that empower communities, particularly women and girls, in rural Tanzania.
