TANGSEN, in partnership with the Kisarawe District Department of Community Development, conducted a comprehensive visit to engage with youth and women entrepreneur groups and women’s entrepreneurship initiatives in the Pwani Region, specifically within Kisarawe District. The visit covered three wards: Kibuta, Masaki, and Kazimzumbwi. The delegation included TANGSEN staff and a Development Officer from the Kisarawe District Community Development Office.
During the visit, TANGSEN successfully visited four registered groups, along with over 15 self-employed entrepreneurs. These individuals are primarily involved in food preparation for nutrition, poultry farming, and other agricultural activities.
The focus was on identifying groups that are utilizing energy-efficient practices in their operations, particularly in food preparation, chick incubation, and poultry farming, among other activities.
The groups that TANGSEN visited are as follows:
- MLEGELE Group – Located in Masanganya Village, Kibuta Ward, this group has 34 members engaged in both traditional and modern poultry farming, contributing to local food security and economic development.
- REMASIVESO Women Group – This group consists of five female members who specialize in food preparation, specifically as "mama lishe" (nutrition-conscious food providers), playing a critical role in community health and well-being through affordable and nutritious meals.
- TASHIMWA Group – Located in Kazimzumbwi Ward, this group includes six female members involved in modern poultry farming for meat and eggs production. The group is focused on improving poultry farming techniques to increase efficiency and meet growing market demand.
- UMILIKI Youth Group – This youth-driven group has five members who engage in diverse livestock farming, including chickens, cows, rabbits, and pigs. The group’s entrepreneurial activities aim to improve income-generating opportunities for young people in the district.
These groups, all located within Kisarawe District, are representative of the broader efforts to empower local communities through entrepreneurship, particularly in the areas of agriculture, food security, and nutrition. The primary objective of this visit was to assess the current activities of these entrepreneur groups, with particular attention to their use of energy in their operations, including cooking, incubation of chicks, and poultry farming.
Furthermore, TANGSEN aimed to identify potential areas of collaboration that could lead to increased productivity and sustainability for these groups, particularly through the adoption of cleaner energy solutions and improved agricultural practices.
By fostering partnerships with these entrepreneurial groups, TANGSEN seeks to enhance the profitability and efficiency of their businesses, contributing to economic empowerment, food security, and community development in Kisarawe District.
This initiative aligns with broader goals of promoting sustainable development and supporting local entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, to thrive in their respective industries.
